About us
Who are we?
Kinell designs and integrates low-emission propulsion and energy supply systems for river, coastal and maritime vessels.
Formerly known as Seco Marine, the entity dedicated to carbon-free propulsion technologies and marine energy transition has jointed the other companies of the FETIS Group working towards decarbonisation under the Kinell brand.
Our mission
At Kinell, our goal is to accelerate the decarbonisation of the marine landscape by offering comprehensive, reliable and certifiable propulsion solutions tailored to the specific needs of each vessel.
We design our systems to perform well in real operating conditions, while enabling shipowners and shipyards to control their operating costs throughout the vessel’s life cycle. Beyond supplying cutting-edge technologies, we support our customers in the training, use and monitoring of these systems to ensure an efficient, sustainable and smooth energy transition for their activities.
FAQ – frequently asked questions
What is meant by a carbon-free propulsion system?
Carbon-free propulsion systems aim to significantly reduce or even eliminate CO₂ emissions and air pollutants. They are based on electric, hybrid or hydrogen technologies that are seamlessly integrated into the vessel and its use.
What types of systems does Kinell design and integrate?
Kinell designs and integrates all-electric, hybrid and hydrogen propulsion systems, as well as the associated energy supply and management systems. Each solution is tailored to the ship’s operational profile.
What is a ‘complete’ propulsion system at Kinell?
A complete system includes propulsion, energy storage, power management, control interfaces, and integration with other ship equipment. Kinell ensures the consistency and performance of the entire system.
Are Kinell solutions certifiable?
Yes. The systems developed by Kinell are designed to meet the certification requirements of classification societies. This approach has been validated as part of a project that obtained Approval in Principle (AiP) from Bureau Veritas, confirming the compliance of the concept and system architecture with applicable regulatory requirements.
What types of vessels do you work on?
Kinell works on all types of vessels, including river, coastal and ocean-going ships, and on all nautical activities such as passenger transport and work boats.
How does Kinell support system operation?
Kinell supports its customers in the implementation, use and monitoring of systems to ensure reliable, secure and sustainable operation. Our systems are scalable to guarantee the longevity of the installation despite the rapid advancement of new technologies.
Does Kinell only work on new projects?
No. Kinell works on new construction projects as well as conversions or retrofits of existing vessels, depending on technical and regulatory constraints.
How do Kinell solutions contribute to cost control?
The systems are designed to optimise costs throughout the ship’s life cycle by improving energy efficiency and facilitating maintenance.
Why choose Kinell for a carbon-free propulsion project?
Kinell combines engineering expertise, mastery of carbon-free technologies and support throughout the entire ship lifecycle. This comprehensive approach helps secure projects and accelerate the maritime energy transition.
