ePTO system
Customer challenge
A vehicle or mobile machine manufacturer is required to provide a mechanical / hydraulic power-take-off (mPTO/hPTO) for an electrically operated vehicle (eTruck) or mobile machine (e.g. eTractor) or a body builder / implement manufacturer is required to convert a defined electrical HV-interface (ePTO) to a mechanical (speed, torque) or hydraulic (pressure, flow) interface for the operation of superstructures (attachments / auxiliary functions).
System description
The Kinell emPTO / ehPTO System offers a validated and easy-to-integrate electrically operated mechanical or hydraulic PTO solution for defined HV interfaces (ePTO). It includes:
- Validated mobile inverter / e-drive combination
- Mechanically compatible hydraulic pump (optionally)
- emPTO control unit for dedicated emPTO control with flexible communication interface to E-body / E-implement
- Mercedes eEconic/eActro and MAN eTGS / eTGX ePTO compatibility (HV & control)
- Cooling circuit with pump and fan (optional for autarkic colign system)
- LV wiring harness with the communication interfaces to the vehicle chassis and body / implement
- HV cabling with an automotive plug for ePTO connection.

Customer benefits & system features
Truck-OEM interoperability
Mercedes-Benz eEconic / eActros & MAN eTGS/eTGX ePTO compliance; others can be made available on request.
Flexible CAN body interface implementation
No direct communication with the vehicle ePTO interface is required; a mechanical interface for various truck chassis.
Integrated ePTO control functions
Energy management, active functions (discharge, Safe-Torque-Off) and error handling.
Simple and flexible Integration
Available as component kits for optimum system integration or as pre-assembled packages for ease of installation.
Single point of contact
Defined responsibility for the components contained in the system, the system functions and the interfaces to the e-vehicle.
Options available
Various inverter / electric motor combinations are possible. Several mPTOs/ehPTOs and active functions such as switching and precharging can be implemented.
Options
Multiple
PTO
Additional PDU allows the implementation of:
- Multiple mPTO(ehPTOs, and/or
- Pre-charging and switching
emPTO control unit acts as single gateway and central energy manager to vehicle ePTO.
